PETG and PLA solve different problems. PLA is usually easier and more dimensionally stable; PETG offers more toughness and moisture resistance but can string and creep under continuous load. Choose by function, not by a generic ranking.

Compare the actual duty

  • Temperature and duration.
  • Impact or static load.
  • Moisture and chemical contact.
  • Appearance and finishing needs.

Printing behaviour

PLA generally prints with lower nozzle and bed temperatures. PETG needs more controlled flow and often slower travel to limit stringing.

Validate the part

  • Test the loaded feature.
  • Measure after cooling.
  • Check layer orientation.

Common engineering mistakes

  • Choosing by strength number alone.
  • Ignoring creep under load.
  • Using PLA in a hot environment.
  • Comparing different infills.
  • Skipping a functional test.

Buyer checklist

  • What is the service temperature?
  • Is load continuous or impact?
  • Will moisture be present?
  • Is the geometry suitable?
  • Was the part tested?
