Bottom line: before printing glow-in-the-dark filament, confirm nozzle size and wear resistance, dry the material and plan sufficient part thickness. Phosphorescent pigment is abrasive and needs a larger orifice. The effect also fades if the pigment is poorly distributed or the part is too thin.
Before printing
| Item | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Nozzle size | 0.4 mm or larger |
| Nozzle material | Wear-resistant for long runs |
| Drying | Per TDS before printing |
| Part thickness | Thicker improves storage of light |
| Wall count | More walls improve effect |
Printing notes
- Reduce retraction frequency.
- Avoid very small layer heights with particle fillers.
- Charge with strong light before judging.
- Store away from prolonged sunlight.
Costly mistakes
- Using a 0.2 mm nozzle.
- Skipping drying.
- Expecting permanent brightness.
- Treating the effect as a safety certification.
- Ignoring mechanical property loss.
Buyer / engineer checklist
- Is the required effect defined?
- Is the nozzle suitable?
- Is the filament dry?
- Is the part thick enough?
- Are mechanical requirements met?
