Clean support removal starts in the slicer. Reduce contact strength on visible surfaces, orient the part and use the right tool. Pulling a large support in one movement often damages the model.
Plan the support
- Use interface layers.
- Keep supports away from visible faces.
- Tune Z distance and density.
Remove in stages
Cut or loosen the support in small sections with side cutters, flush cutters or a thin scraper. Support the model so it cannot twist.
Finish
- Remove burrs.
- Check dimensions.
- Light sanding only.
| Problem | Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Hard to remove | Dense contact | Increase gap |
| Surface pits | Strong support | Use interface |
| Scratches | Wrong tool | Change method |
| Dimensions | Excess force | Secure part |
Common engineering mistakes
- Prying a large block.
- Ignoring orientation.
- Using maximum density.
- Sanding too aggressively.
- Not checking fit.
Buyer checklist
- Is support orientation suitable?
- Is contact strength tuned?
- Is the tool correct?
- Is the part fixed?
- Are dimensions checked?
