PLA temperature should be selected from the supplier range, then confirmed with a temperature tower and a functional part. Too low gives poor layer adhesion; too high can increase stringing and heat creep.
Set the range
- Read the supplier TDS.
- Confirm nozzle and hotend.
- Check filament diameter and dryness.
Run a controlled test
Change temperature in small steps while keeping speed, flow and cooling constant. Inspect layer adhesion, bridges, surface and dimensions.
Lock the profile
- Use the real part.
- Record colour and batch.
- Store the approved profile.
| Temperature | Likely effect | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Too low | Weak layers | Peel test |
| Middle | Balanced | Surface and strength |
| Too high | Stringing or heat creep | Flow and jam |
Common engineering mistakes
- Copying a temperature from another PLA.
- Changing speed and temperature together.
- Judging only surface.
- Ignoring the hotend.
- Not saving the final profile.
Buyer checklist
- Is the material grade known?
- Is the test controlled?
- Is layer strength checked?
- Is the hotend suitable?
- Is the profile documented?
