Bottom line: PLA warping is less common than with ABS but still occurs on large flat parts. Work through bed levelling, Z-offset, bed temperature, bottom-layer cooling and draughts. Adhesive helps only after the mechanical setup is correct.
Checklist
| Item | Action |
|---|---|
| Bed levelling | Verify across the whole plate |
| Z-offset | Slight compression, not excessive |
| Bed temperature | Within the PLA range |
| Bottom cooling | Reduce for the first layers |
| Draughts | Shield the printer |
| Geometry | Add radii or brim |
Order of checks
- Clean and level the plate.
- Set Z-offset.
- Set bed temperature.
- Reduce bottom-layer cooling.
- Add brim or radii if needed.
Costly mistakes
- Adding adhesive first.
- Bed temperature too high or too low.
- Strong cooling from the first layer.
- Ignoring draughts.
- No geometry change.
Buyer / engineer checklist
- Is the plate clean and level?
- Is Z-offset correct?
- Is bed temperature right?
- Is bottom cooling reduced?
- Is the geometry supported?
