Popping and bubbles usually indicate moisture, but contamination, overheating or trapped air can produce similar effects. Dry the filament and compare a reference print before changing multiple settings.
Identify the source
- Popping or steam.
- Bubbles at the nozzle.
- Surface roughness.
- Weak layer bonding.
Correct
Dry the whole spool, protect it during printing, check nozzle contamination and keep temperature within range. Calibrate flow if extrusion is unstable.
Verify
- Mass change.
- Before/after print.
- Peel or strength test.
| Cause | Signal | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Moisture | Popping | Dry |
| Contamination | Dark specks | Clean |
| Overheat | Degradation | Lower temperature |
| Air path | Inconsistent flow | Inspect feeder |
Common engineering mistakes
- Only increasing temperature.
- Drying the surface.
- Assuming one roll is bad.
- Changing several variables.
- No reference print.
Buyer checklist
- Is material dry?
- Is the spool sealed?
- Is the nozzle clean?
- Is temperature correct?
- Is the defect repeatable?
