Vacuum sealing protects dry filament from moisture during storage and transport. It does not dry a wet spool or compensate for a damaged bag. Control sealing, desiccant and opening procedure.
Prepare the spool
- Dry and cool the filament.
- Check weight and label.
- Keep the spool clean.
Seal properly
Use a suitable bag, remove excess air and verify the weld. Add labeled desiccant and protect sharp spool edges.
Use and restore
- Open only when needed.
- Record the date.
- Reseal quickly with fresh desiccant.
| Step | Control | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Drying | Temperature and time | Moisture |
| Bag | Strength and barrier | Leak test |
| Weld | Continuous seal | Visual and pull test |
| Storage | Temperature and light | Label |
Common engineering mistakes
- Sealing a hot spool.
- Using a punctured bag.
- Forgetting desiccant.
- Leaving bags open.
- Not labeling the opening date.
Buyer checklist
- Is the filament dry?
- Is the bag intact?
- Is the seal verified?
- Is desiccant active?
- Is storage recorded?
