Previously damp filament can often be recovered, but drying must be controlled and the result verified. Very old or heat-damaged material may remain brittle even after drying.
Dry correctly
- Use a safe material temperature.
- Dry the whole spool.
- Cool before sealing.
Verify recovery
Compare mass, extrusion, surface and layer strength with a reference print. Do not judge by touch.
Storage
- Sealed box.
- Active desiccant.
- Dry before each critical job.
| Check | Method | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Mass | Before/after | Stable |
| Surface | Reference print | No bubbles |
| Extrusion | Wall test | Stable |
| Strength | Peel test | No weak layers |
Common engineering mistakes
- Using too much heat.
- Drying only the surface.
- Sealing a hot spool.
- Judging by appearance.
- Assuming every spool recovers.
Buyer checklist
- Is temperature safe?
- Is the whole spool dry?
- Was cooling completed?
- Was a reference print made?
- Is storage sealed?
