Previously damp filament can often be recovered, but drying must be controlled and the result verified. Very old or heat-damaged material may remain brittle even after drying.

Dry correctly

  • Use a safe material temperature.
  • Dry the whole spool.
  • Cool before sealing.

Verify recovery

Compare mass, extrusion, surface and layer strength with a reference print. Do not judge by touch.

Storage

  • Sealed box.
  • Active desiccant.
  • Dry before each critical job.

Common engineering mistakes

  • Using too much heat.
  • Drying only the surface.
  • Sealing a hot spool.
  • Judging by appearance.
  • Assuming every spool recovers.

Buyer checklist

  • Is temperature safe?
  • Is the whole spool dry?
  • Was cooling completed?
  • Was a reference print made?
  • Is storage sealed?
